Jarrak Stoutbelly is a good-for-nothing drunkard!! – Mera Rockfist, Orsik’s mother
Orsik Stoutbelly grew up in a small town of Hilltop just to the west of Franklin’s Ferry. He grew up without his father, the “good-for-nothing drunkard” named Jarrak Stoutbelly. Orsik’s mother, Mera, was sure to let Orsik know that he should NEVER be like Jarrak. It was this constant reiteration that guides Orsik’s hand away from booze.
From when he was born, Orsik was always getting into trouble. He would start a fight with anyone, even if it meant losing. If anyone would dare him to do anything, he would surely give it a try. Most of the time, his need to prove himself resulted in being grounded by his mother.
At the age of 11, Orsik’s human buddy Karl dared Orsik to steal a sword from the local blacksmith. Orsik didn’t want to do it at first but Karl kept on pressuring him till Orsik finally agreed. The caper was easy enough; Karl would provide the distraction while Orsik would steal the sword. At least, that’s what they both hoped for. When Karl “accidently” dropped a helmet, making a huge racket, and Orsik started running out of the door with the sword, Orsik didn’t expect the captain of the town guard to be directly outside. Orsik was quickly put in the local prison.
He was put into the local prison and stayed there for 6 months. His mother couldn’t provide the money needed for Orsik’s bail so he had to stay there the whole time. During his 6 months in jail, he picked up a couple of tricks from an inmate. He learned how to pick locks, palm small weapons, and general thievery. His inmate friend, Yohan the Illusionist, taught Orsik how to spot illusions and charm effects as well.
When Orsik got out of jail, his mother immediately signed him up to be a volunteer guard. It was here that Orsik learned how to use weapons correctly and wear armor. He stayed in this duty for 9 years. He was a good guard but did not want to be stuck in the town he grew up in.
Late one night, Orsik was on guard duty and he thought he saw something in the field just outside of the gate. He told his guard captain he was going to investigate it. As he went out to the field, he started to see a small wispy shape. He finally got close to the thing and to his surprise; it was the ghost of a small girl. At first, Orsik wasn’t afraid but as soon as the girl noticed him, she screamed her banshee’s wail. Orsik never ran so fast in his entire life. To this day, Orsik almost pees his pants when he sees a wispy-type undead.
Orsik finally got enough gold together, got some gear together, kissed his mother goodbye, and headed to Franklin’s Ferry in hopes to redeem the Stoutbelly name. Once he was in Franklin’s Ferry, Orsik worked for a blacksmith and always tried to volunteer for any lottery assignments that would involve fighting. He finally got his break, with a Half-Orc Barbarian, a Human Cleric, and a Human Wizard and here is where the legend of Orsik Stoutbell starts…..
